Turn a face photo into a 3D head or bust model
About FaceTo3D
FaceTo3D is a browser tool that turns an ordinary face photo into a textured 3D model. You upload a portrait, the AI isolates the head, and a few minutes later you have a mesh you can rotate in an interactive viewer and download as GLB, OBJ or STL. It exists for the gap between a photo and a usable 3D asset: sculpting a likeness by hand in Blender or ZBrush takes hours of skilled work, while photogrammetry rigs need dozens of shots from controlled angles. FaceTo3D works from one photo, or from several views of the same person when you have them.
The product is built around the face specifically rather than general objects. A Smart Face Extraction step removes the background and body before reconstruction, and you choose an output scope of Head (face and neck only) or Bust (head, shoulders and visible clothing). The same site also offers a general Image to 3D mode and an AI Face Swap tool, but the face to 3D workflow is the core. Pricing is credit based: a 3D generation costs 30 credits, and credits come either from a monthly subscription or from one-time packs that stay valid for a year, which suits people who only need a handful of models.
Open the generator and pick Single View to 3D or Multi View to 3D, depending on how many photos of the subject you have. Choose the output scope, Head or Bust, so the model covers only the face and neck or extends to the shoulders and clothing.
Upload a face photo in JPEG, PNG or WebP format, up to 10MB. The upload is analysed and Smart Face Extraction strips out the background and body so that only the part you asked for is reconstructed. No manual masking in an image editor is needed.
Press Create My 3D Face Model. The reconstruction runs in the cloud, and the site quotes an average of about four minutes per model. When it finishes, the result appears in an interactive 3D viewer where you can orbit the model and check lighting and texture before downloading.
Download the model in the format your pipeline needs: GLB for web and real-time engines, OBJ for general 3D software, or STL for slicers and 3D printers. Each generation deducts 30 credits from your balance.
- •Single and multi-view reconstruction - Build a model from one portrait, or supply several views of the same face for a more complete result. The same photo can be generated in both Portrait and Bust modes, as the example gallery shows.
- •Smart Face Extraction - Backgrounds and bodies are removed automatically before reconstruction, keeping only the head and neck or the bust. This removes the Photoshop step that face-to-3D work usually starts with.
- •Head or Bust output scope - Choose a tight face-and-neck mesh for avatars and character heads, or a bust that includes shoulders and visible clothing for figurines and busts.
- •GLB, OBJ and STL export - Download in the three formats that cover game engines, VR scenes, general 3D packages and 3D printing, without a conversion step.
- •Interactive 3D preview - Inspect each model in the browser with lighting and texture controls before you spend time importing it elsewhere.
- •Credit packs or subscriptions - Buy a one-time pack starting at $4.9 for about one generation, or subscribe monthly for a recurring credit allowance. Paid plans include commercial usage rights, and the higher tiers add priority support and faster processing.
Indie game developers use FaceTo3D to get a likeness-based base mesh for a character head quickly, then refine topology and rigging in their usual tools. VR and AR designers use it to put recognisable faces into scenes without commissioning a sculpt. 3D printing hobbyists and small print shops use the STL export to turn a customer photo into a printable bust or figurine head.
Digital content creators and avatar makers use the GLB output for web viewers and social 3D experiences. Animators and small studios can treat the result as a starting point that saves the blocking-out stage of modelling a real person.
It is a better fit for occasional or project-based work than for anyone who needs production-ready topology straight away: the output is an AI reconstruction from photos, so plan to clean up the mesh for animation. People who only need one or two models can buy a single credit pack rather than a subscription.
