Mintlify pricing has two numbers that matter: $0 for up to five editors, and $450 a month once you need a sixth editor or any of the AI features. Nothing sits in between. If your docs team is small and you can live without the AI assistant, Mintlify costs you nothing. The day either of those changes, you are looking at $5,400 a year.

I read every price in this post on mintlify.com on 26 October 2026. I have not run a paid Mintlify workspace, so there is no verdict here on how good the assistant's answers are. This post covers what you pay and what each plan unlocks.

The three Mintlify plans

Plan Price Editors AI credits
Starter $0 5 None, AI features are off
Pro $450/month billed annually, $540 billed monthly Unlimited 10,000 a month, then $0.01 per credit
Enterprise Contact sales Unlimited Custom, with volume discounts

Starter is a proper docs site, and I like that Mintlify did not cripple it. You get hosting, a custom domain, search, the web editor, Git sync, the API playground and an MCP server for your docs. Mintlify calls it "free forever" on the pricing page.

Pro adds the AI features (assistant, writing agent, automations), preview deployments, password-protected docs, analytics, webhooks and the admin APIs. Enterprise adds SSO and SCIM for the dashboard, audit logs, role-based permissions, OAuth or JWT auth for readers, self-hosting and EU hosting.

The sixth editor costs $450 a month

Mintlify charges no per-seat fee, which sounds generous until you notice what that does to the step between plans. Five people can edit for free. A sixth person moves you to Pro, and Pro has one price no matter whether you have six editors or sixty.

For a big team that is a good deal. For a team of six it is $75 per editor per month on the annual plan, and $90 if you pay monthly. If you pay monthly for a year, you spend $6,480 instead of $5,400, so the annual commitment saves you $1,080.

Editor count is not the only trigger. Preview deployments, password protection for internal docs and any of the AI features also need Pro. A two-person team that wants a preview link on every pull request pays the same $450 as a team of forty.

Every Mintlify AI answer has a price

Mintlify bills its AI features in credits, at a flat price per action:

  • An assistant answer costs 25 credits. If the assistant can't answer, you pay nothing.
  • An automation update costs 250 credits. If the automation finds nothing to update, you pay nothing.
  • The writing agent is listed as unlimited.

Pro includes 10,000 credits a month. Spent on the assistant alone, that is 400 answers. Spent on automations alone, it is 40 updates. Past the allowance you pay $0.01 a credit, which makes each extra answer $0.25 and each extra automation update $2.50.

Four hundred answers a month is not much for public docs with real traffic. If your readers ask 2,000 questions a month, the 1,600 over the allowance cost about $400, so your bill nearly doubles. You can switch overages off, and then Mintlify pauses the AI features until the next billing cycle. I would set a spending cap before launch and watch the first month's usage, because the pricing page gives no way to estimate reader questions in advance.

Mintlify's pricing changed three times in 2026

If a Mintlify price you found elsewhere looks wrong, check its date. It may have been right when someone wrote it down. PricingSaaS, a third-party tracker, logged these changes from Mintlify's pricing page:

  • Spring 2026: Pro cost $250 a month.
  • By 29 June: Mintlify removed Pro and kept two plans, free Starter and Enterprise.
  • 6 July: Pro came back at $450 a month, with 10,000 credits a month instead of a one-off allocation. The AI features moved from Starter to Pro.

Our own Mintlify listing recorded Pro at $540 a month on 19 September 2026, the monthly-billing price, which still matches the vendor page today.

Discounts: open source, startups and YC

Three programs can cut the bill, and all need an application:

  • Open source: non-commercial open source projects get Pro free. The project needs a recognised open source licence and can't be venture-backed, funded by revenue or run by a for-profit company.
  • Startups: venture-backed startups founded in the last two years, with less than $2M raised and no previous Mintlify payment, get 50% off Pro for 12 months. Half of $450 is $225 a month.
  • Y Combinator: the current YC batch gets 12 months free.

The startup deal changed this month. Until 3 October 2026 Mintlify offered eligible startups six months of Pro free, according to PricingSaaS. The 50% offer is what the page shows now.

There is also a trial: 14 days of Pro with 5,000 credits and no credit card. The trial ends at 14 days or when the credits run out, whichever comes first.

Stay on Starter until one of these hits

Stay on Starter if five editors cover your team and you don't need preview deployments or private docs. That describes a lot of open source projects and small API companies, and Starter gives them a hosted, searchable docs site with a custom domain for $0.

Pay for Pro when you need a sixth editor, preview deployments or private docs, and budget for credits if you plan to put the assistant in front of public traffic. A team of six to ten editors pays a steep price per head. Past twenty editors, a flat $450 starts to look cheap.

Before you commit to a year, run the 14-day trial on your real docs and count the assistant answers. Multiply by 25 credits and you can see whether 10,000 a month covers you.

Mintlify is not the only developer tool that moved to credits this year. Ampcode's pricing splits the bill into a free agent, cloud machine minutes and model usage, and the same advice applies: cap the spend before your first month.
