Sculptly
Turn a photo into a 3D mesh you can print
About Sculptly
Sculptly turns a photograph into a 3D model, exported as GLB. It sits in a category that barely existed as a consumer product until recently, because image-to-3D was a research problem long after image generation had become routine.
What makes it more useful than a bare generator is the tooling around the generation. A mesh produced from a photo is frequently not printable: it has open holes, inverted normals, or geometry a slicer refuses. Sculptly ships a repair tool that detects and patches open holes, and the site is direct about needing it, saying prints usually want a pass through the repair tool first. That is an honest thing to put on your own marketing, and it tells you the generator alone is not the whole job.
The repair tool is free to use, as are several of the other utilities, which makes the product more approachable than its subscription tiers suggest.
You upload an image and it produces a mesh. The first model costs nothing and needs no account or card, which is a genuine evaluation rather than a watermarked preview.
Generation quality is tiered: Standard and High Detail cost different amounts of credit, and the plan descriptions state both counts, so 165 credits is described as 55 Standard or 4 High Detail generations. That ratio is the number to pay attention to, because a plan sized for Standard work buys very few High Detail models.
Before printing, you run the mesh through the repair tool, which finds and patches holes.
Other utilities sit alongside: voxelising a GLB, repairing an STL, composing a scene.
- •Image to 3D mesh - a photograph in, a GLB out.
- •First model free - no account, no card, which is unusual in this category.
- •Free repair tool - detects and patches open holes, and the vendor says outright that prints usually need it.
- •Standard and High Detail tiers - with the credit cost of each stated, so the real capacity of a plan is visible.
- •Published cost per model - roughly 0.14 to 0.15 USD, which most vendors leave you to divide.
- •One-time credits that never expire - as an alternative to subscribing, though without the introductory discount.
Anyone with a photograph and a 3D printer, which is the clearest case: the repair tooling exists because printing is the intended destination.
Game and AR developers needing rough assets quickly, where a usable mesh beats a perfect one that takes a day to model.
It is not a replacement for modelling. A generated mesh from a single photo is an approximation, and High Detail generations eat credits at roughly fourteen times the rate of Standard ones, so work out which you actually need before choosing a plan. The free first model is the right way to see which side of that line your images fall on.
