About VoiceScriber
VoiceScriber is an iPhone app for recording, importing and transcribing voice notes entirely on the device. Speech recognition runs locally on the iPhone, so turning a recording into text needs no internet connection, no account and no upload to a transcription server. It works in Airplane Mode once the app is installed, which makes it usable on flights, in the field or anywhere the signal is unreliable. The problem it addresses is a familiar one: most transcription services send your audio to someone else's server, which is a poor fit for confidential interviews, personal journals, lectures or in-person meetings where the speaker never agreed to a cloud upload.
The app is built by A6 Digital, an on-device AI app studio based in Istanbul, Turkey, and published on the App Store by its legal entity, Super Nova A.S. Its App Store privacy label states that the developer does not collect any data from the app. VoiceScriber supports more than 100 transcription languages, with automatic detection or a fixed language chosen in Settings, and its interface is translated into 10 languages. It is deliberately narrow: the vendor states that it is not a keyboard or cross-app live-dictation replacement, does not join Zoom, Teams or Google Meet as a meeting bot, and does not offer a shared cloud workspace. Pricing is a weekly subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase through the App Store, and both unlock the same features.
Install VoiceScriber from the App Store on an iPhone running iOS 17.6 or later and grant microphone access. There is no sign-up step; any purchase is handled through your Apple account.
To capture something new, open the app and tap the microphone, or start a recording from the Home Screen widget, which also offers a shortcut to import audio. A single recording can run up to 90 minutes, and it keeps going when the screen locks or you switch to another app. Recording controls and elapsed time appear on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, and an incoming phone call pauses the recording rather than ending it, so you can resume afterwards without losing earlier audio.
If the audio already exists, import an M4A, MP3 or WAV file of up to 90 minutes instead. You can start a new recording while a previous one is still being transcribed.
The on-device model then converts speech to text. Once the transcript is ready you can read and correct it inside the app, search across your notes for a word or detail, copy the parts you need, share the text or the original audio to another app, or print a note (title, date and transcript) to paper or PDF. The vendor recommends checking important passages against the recording before relying on them.
- •On-device transcription - Speech is converted to text locally on the iPhone. Recording and transcription work without Wi-Fi or mobile data after installation, and audio is not uploaded to a transcription server.
- •100+ transcription languages - Speak in English, Japanese, Arabic, Greek and many more. Pick the transcription language in Settings or leave automatic detection on. The app interface itself is available in 10 languages, including German, French, Spanish, Polish and Japanese.
- •Long, interruption-tolerant recording - Sessions of up to 90 minutes continue in the background and when the screen locks. Phone calls pause the recording and it resumes without dropping what was already captured, with Lock Screen and Dynamic Island controls to stop it without opening the app.
- •Audio file import - Bring in existing M4A, MP3 or WAV recordings, up to 90 minutes each, and transcribe them on the device alongside your own recordings, either from inside the app or from the wide Home Screen widget.
- •Edit, search and share - Correct transcripts in place, search across notes, and share either the transcript text or the original audio to any app. Notes can also be printed or saved as a PDF.
- •No account, no data collection - There is no VoiceScriber account to create, and recordings, transcripts and notes stay on the device unless you choose to export or share them.
VoiceScriber suits iPhone users whose recordings should not leave the phone. Journalists and independent researchers can record in-person interviews and review what was said without sending the audio to a third-party service. Students can turn lectures and spoken study notes into searchable text, including in rooms with poor reception. Writers and creators can capture ideas aloud before shaping them into a draft, and people who keep a voice journal get a private transcript they can return to.
Professionals who keep personal voice notes or records of in-person meetings will find the background recording and call handling useful for long sessions, while travellers benefit from transcription that works in Airplane Mode. Clinicians and other regulated users should note that the vendor makes no blanket HIPAA or compliance guarantee, so consent, device security and policy remain their responsibility. Anyone who needs a meeting bot for video calls, live dictation into other apps or a shared team archive should look elsewhere.
