RolePatch
Your resume, tailored to the role
About RolePatch
RolePatch is an AI resume tailoring web app built around one narrow job: taking a resume you already have and adapting it to one specific job description. You bring your resume and the posting, RolePatch matches the job's requirements against your existing experience, and it proposes a tailored draft - a "patch" - that you inspect, check claim by claim, and edit before anything is exported. The problem it addresses is familiar to anyone applying for roles: generic resumes undersell relevant experience, while generic AI rewriting tools tend to inflate it with skills, tools or metrics the candidate never had.
RolePatch takes a deliberately conservative position on that second problem. Its tailoring instruction forbids invented skills, tools, employers, scope, metrics or accomplishments. It may reframe, reorder and emphasize facts that already exist in your base resume, your project stash or your achievement evidence, and when a job asks for something your materials do not support, the result is a visible gap rather than a fabricated claim. On the illustrative example on its homepage, only the summary is generated, while achievement wording, complete projects and education stay preserved. The product can be used in a guest workspace that keeps data in the current browser, and Google sign-in adds account storage. It is made by an independent developer, Sarthak Agrawal, and its source code is public on GitHub under the MIT license, alongside developer docs and an OpenAPI schema.
The workflow is three steps. First, you bring your resume: import a PDF, DOCX or Markdown file you already have, or paste your experience into the workspace. Second, you bring the job: add a public job URL or paste the job description, choose which base resume to start from, and mark any points that must always be included.
Third, you make it yours. RolePatch shows the proposed patch so you can see exactly what changed, check each claim against your source material, and edit the wording. You then export the version you want to send, and your original resume stays preserved. Requirements that your materials do not support are surfaced as gaps you can address honestly rather than quietly filled in.
From the same role, signed-in users can generate supporting materials that stay tied to that job: cover letters, fit analysis, interview stories and application packets. AI operations for signed-in accounts are paid with tokens, while a set of browser-based resume tools works without any sign-up. Guest data stays in browser storage, so clearing it removes guest records; signing in with Google moves your records to account storage that works across devices.
- •Evidence-bound tailoring - The base resume, project stash and achievement bank are the only permitted sources for employer-facing claims. RolePatch can reframe and reorder supplied evidence, but unsupported skills, metrics, employers and tools remain visible gaps instead of being invented.
- •Reviewable resume patch - Every proposed change is shown as a patch you can inspect and edit before export. You can mark points to always include, and the original resume is kept intact so the tailored version is always a separate draft.
- •Role-linked supporting materials - Cover letters, fit scoring, interview prep stories, outreach drafts and application packets are generated against the same job and the same reviewed patch, so the materials stay consistent with each other.
- •Job browser and reviewed queue - A LinkedIn-focused job browser offers quick searches, posting signals, resume-aware ranking and visible match evidence, with reviewed batch queueing. The application queue records receipts, blockers and retry timelines.
- •Chrome extension for supported ATS pages - On supported applicant tracking system pages the extension can save a job, open its tailoring flow, retrieve a reviewed application packet, fill visible fields after a user click and capture receipts. It does not bypass CAPTCHA and does not perform unattended bulk apply.
- •Free browser tools - A resume diff tool, ATS keyword checker, ATS formatting check, bullet snippet library, bullet strength checker and resume word count work without sign-up.
RolePatch fits job seekers who apply to a smaller number of roles carefully rather than spraying one resume everywhere, and who want each application to reflect the specific posting without misrepresenting their background. Engineers, product people and other professionals with a solid base resume can use it to shift emphasis toward what a given role asks for, then check every change before sending.
It also suits candidates who are wary of AI writing tools that embellish. Because unsupported requirements show up as gaps, the tool doubles as a quick way to see where a resume falls short of a job description, which is useful for deciding whether to apply or what to address in a cover letter.
People who want to try it with minimal commitment can start in the guest workspace or use the free keyword, formatting and bullet tools without creating an account. Users who prefer to buy usage rather than subscribe can purchase token packs as needed, since tokens do not expire. Developers interested in how it works can read the public MIT-licensed repository, the developer docs and the OpenAPI schema.
