About Manga Translator

Manga Translator is a browser tool that translates manga pages between more than fifty languages, combining OCR to read the text out of the artwork, translation models with manga-specific glossaries, and typesetting to put the result back into the speech bubbles. The problem it solves is particular to comics: the text is not text, it is pixels inside drawn panels, often vertical, often hand-lettered, and frequently overlapping the art. A general translation tool cannot see it at all, and doing the job by hand means erasing, redrawing and re-lettering every bubble.

Where it differs from a generic OCR-plus-translate pipeline is the manga-specific handling. Glossaries and translation memories keep character names and recurring terms consistent, sound effects get their own treatment, and smart typesetting sizes the translated line to the bubble it belongs in rather than letting it overflow the art. The front page works without an account, which is unusual in this category and makes it straightforward to test on a single page before committing to anything.

The service is operated by Ficory LLC and reports more than 100 million translations completed at 99 percent accuracy. Both of those numbers are published by the vendor rather than independently measured, so they are worth reading as marketing.
