Read your paper the way Reviewer 2 will.
About RefereeAhead
RefereeAhead is an AI pre-submission review service for life-science manuscripts. You upload a draft as a PDF or Word file, optionally name the target journal, and in about 30 minutes receive the concerns referees are likely to raise. Each finding is tied to the exact sentence that triggers it, explains why a reviewer will object, and proposes the smallest change that would answer it. It describes itself as a self-check before you submit, not a substitute for peer review.
The problem it addresses is the cost of a major-revision decision. Many of the objections that send a paper back, such as treating neurons rather than cultures as independent replicates, or resting a causal claim on a single knockdown, are predictable, but authors close to their own work tend to miss them. RefereeAhead runs two independent review passes and merges them, and on its own published benchmark that merge raised major-concern recall from 70% to 78% over a single pass. It also checks references against Crossref and Retraction Watch. Quotes that cannot be found verbatim in the manuscript are discarded, so every finding points at text you actually wrote. Manuscripts are not used for training and are deleted 30 days after the report. The service is operated by JINYAN LLC and offers a Chinese-language interface.
You start with a free readiness scan. Upload the manuscript, figures and legends included, up to 30 MB. In about three minutes the scan counts the major and minor concerns it found, shows the most serious one in full and lists the titles of the rest. No account is needed to see it.
If you want every finding, you buy a full report. The pipeline parses the text, legends and references, runs two independent review passes, checks the references, verifies that every quoted passage exists in your file, then merges, de-duplicates and ranks the findings by severity. The report is emailed when ready and can be exported as a PDF or shared through a seven-day link.
When you revise, you upload the new draft and the report is re-run against the previous one. Each earlier finding is marked resolved or still open, and anything the revision introduced is flagged as new.
- •Referee-style findings - Each issue names its location, quotes your text, explains why a reviewer would raise it and suggests a concrete fix, ranked with major concerns first.
- •Two independent review passes - Two separate passes are merged into one report, which the company's benchmark shows catches more major concerns than a single pass.
- •Verified quotes - Every quoted passage is matched against the manuscript, and quotes that cannot be found are dropped rather than shown.
- •Reference check - Citations are checked line by line against Crossref and Retraction Watch.
- •Revision tracking - Re-running on a new draft marks earlier findings resolved or open and flags new issues, the same check a referee makes in the second round.
- •Free readiness scan - Up to two free scans a day show the count of concerns and the single most serious one in full before you pay anything.
RefereeAhead is built for researchers in the life sciences, such as neuroscience, cell biology and biomedicine, who want to catch statistical, causal and scope problems before a journal's referees do. Early-career researchers and postdocs submitting without a senior co-author's close reading can use it as an extra pair of critical eyes, and corresponding authors can run it on each revision to confirm that reviewer comments have been addressed.
Labs that publish regularly can buy report packs and use the credits across papers and revisions, and the lab can pay centrally. Authors targeting a specific journal can name it at upload. Because pricing is per manuscript with nothing renewing, it suits occasional users who would not want a subscription.
