Practice pitches, interviews and speeches out loud with AI feedback
About speaking.app
speaking.app is a web app for practicing spoken communication out loud: startup pitches, presentations, job interviews, speeches and the conversations you need to get right. You speak in your own voice, it listens to how you said it, and it returns feedback on both delivery and content. Its tagline is "Rehearse what you can't leave to chance."
Most people prepare a talk by rereading their notes or rehearsing in their head, which tells them little about how they actually sound. speaking.app shows where you rush, where your voice goes flat, where a sentence ends on a rising tone, which pauses work and how often you use filler words. It also produces a tighter version of what you said that keeps your message and prompts you to supply whatever is missing, then sends you back for another take.
Alongside the practice feedback there are short lessons on speaking structures and rhetorical techniques, such as Past, Present, Future; STAR; Problem, Solution, Benefits; and Anaphora, each with a worked example and a quiz. There is also a library of independent analyses of publicly available talks, from speakers including Julian Treasure, Matt Abrahams and Vanessa Van Edwards, run through the same analysis your own practice gets. The site notes that featured speakers are not affiliated with or endorsed by it.
speaking.app is operated by Prosody Limited in Dublin, Ireland, and users must be 16 or older. The Free plan is $0 forever with core AI feedback within a monthly allowance. Pro was shown to us at EUR 9.99 a month or EUR 59.99 a year, prices that include estimated tax and are confirmed by Paddle at checkout, so the figure you see may differ by location. A 7-day Pro option and group pricing also exist.
Sign up for free with no card. Pick what you want to practice: the site has paths for startup and demo day pitches, behavioural interviews, impromptu speaking, Toastmasters, and occasions like wedding, best man and graduation speeches. If you need something to talk about, a topic finder suggests one.
Record a take out loud. You get a transcript plus feedback on pace, filler words and pauses. On Pro the analysis goes further into clarity, rhetoric and a rewritten version of your take. One user quoted on the homepage mentions a hard 3-minute stop per take.
For a startup pitch, the app splits your take into parts (Hook, Problem, Solution, Differentiation, Traction, The Ask, Team) and grades each one as Solid, Decent or Needs work. You can then practice just the weak section, and each take gets its own feedback.
When feedback points to a gap in your structure, it links to the matching lesson. You read a short explanation, study the example and answer a few questions. Passing a technique's quiz on two different days marks it as Confident, and you try the technique in your next practice.
- •Delivery feedback - Pace (fast, slow or steady), pauses to keep, lengthen or shorten, emphasis, flat spots and uptalk, with specific notes on what to keep and what to try in the next take. Words per minute and vocal expression are part of the analysis.
- •Structure feedback and rewrite - The app checks the structure of what you said, flags missing parts and writes a tighter version that keeps your message, prompting you to fill in what is missing rather than inventing it for you. Deeper clarity, rhetoric and rewrite feedback is part of Pro.
- •Pitch breakdown - A startup pitch is graded part by part, from the hook to the ask, so you can rework a single section such as a vague funding request until it names an amount, milestone, timeframe and next step.
- •Lessons and quizzes - Short lessons on speaking structures and rhetorical techniques, each with a worked example and quiz questions, with spaced quizzes on two different days to mark a technique as learned.
- •Speech library - Analyses of well-known public talks showing their structure, pacing and rhetoric, so you can see the same feedback applied to experienced speakers.
- •Free tools - A speech topic finder, a speech timer and a filler word counter are available as standalone free tools.
The clearest audience is founders preparing investor and demo day pitches. Most testimonials on the homepage come from startup founders, one of them in the NDRC Pre-Accelerator, and the pitch breakdown is built around the sections investors expect.
Job seekers can use it to rehearse behavioural interview answers with structures such as STAR. Toastmasters members and anyone working on public speaking can use the delivery feedback, the timer and the filler word counter. People giving a one-off speech, such as a wedding toast or a graduation speech, can rehearse a specific text a few times before the day.
Coaches, startup programmes and communication courses are served through group pricing that gives a whole group private access; those prices were not captured here.
Keep in mind that the free tier works within a monthly allowance that the pricing page does not quantify, Pro prices are shown in your local currency with tax included, and the service is for users aged 16 and over.
