Maxdesk
Free help desk with unlimited agents and tickets, priced per workspace.
About Maxdesk
Maxdesk is a help desk built around one pricing decision: it charges per workspace rather than per agent. That sounds like a billing detail, but it changes how a support team behaves. When every extra seat costs money, teams ration access, and the people who occasionally need to answer a ticket (an engineer, a founder, someone covering a holiday) either share a login or stay outside the system entirely. Maxdesk removes that pressure by not counting agents at all. Its own framing is blunt about the problem it targets: too many small teams outgrow a free plan on day one and hit a paywall on day two.
The free tier is unusually complete rather than a trial. It covers unlimited agents and unlimited tickets under fair usage, email-to-ticket with a dedicated support address per workspace, SLA policies with business hours, no-code automations, templates, a knowledge base, roles and permissions, a live dashboard and an audit trail on every change. Paid plans add branding, deeper reporting and longer data retention, and the top tier layers AI on top. Nothing is time limited and no card is required to start.
Each workspace gets its own support address. Incoming mail becomes a threaded ticket automatically, so the queue fills without anyone forwarding messages by hand. Tickets open into a single view holding the conversation, sidebar and activity together, with priorities, statuses, assignment, internal notes and attachments in the same place.
Routing is handled by no-code automation rules built in the interface as trigger, condition and action. A rule might assign every urgent open ticket to an escalations group, or tag, escalate and auto reply based on whatever conditions you set. SLA targets are defined per priority and respect business hours, with breach counts surfaced on the dashboard rather than discovered later.
Teams are organised with admin, agent, supervisor and read-only roles, plus custom roles and groups for routing, and ticket scoping so people see only what they should. On the Elite tier, AI agents triage and resolve tickets while an AI Copilot drafts contextual replies for a human to approve.
- •Per-workspace pricing - Unlimited agents and unlimited tickets under fair usage, with no per-seat bill on any tier including the free one.
- •Email to ticket - A dedicated support address per workspace turns incoming mail into threaded tickets automatically.
- •SLA management - Targets by priority that honour business hours, with breach counts reported on the dashboard.
- •No-code automations - Trigger, condition and action rules built in the UI to route, tag, escalate or auto reply without engineering help.
- •Support dashboard and reporting - Open tickets, SLA compliance, CSAT, first reply time and reopen rate, with seven-day trends and a live activity feed.
- •Optional AI layer - The Elite tier adds AI agents, an AI Copilot for drafting replies, ticket summaries, live translation, and sentiment and urgency detection, with up to 5,000 AI responses a month.
The per-workspace model makes this most compelling for small and growing support teams who feel per-agent pricing as a real constraint: startups where support is shared across the company, agencies handling several clients, and internal IT desks whose occasional responders would never justify a paid seat. Teams that want SLAs, automation and a knowledge base without assembling several tools will find those included rather than gated. It is a weaker fit if you need live chat, phone or social channels, since the product is currently centred on email and ticketing, or if your organisation requires the compliance and integration depth of an established enterprise suite.
