Stoa
Optimize legal work, from legal research to document management
About Stoa
Stoa is a legal AI workspace for lawyers, in-house counsel, notaries and legal teams. At its core is an AI assistant connected to legal sources that are updated daily: you choose the jurisdiction and legal sources, ask a question in natural language, and the assistant cites the relevant provisions in force so you can open and verify them. Around it sit document management, a real-time collaborative editor and ready-made legal workflows, so research, drafting and review happen in one place.
Stoa launched in May 2024 as an assistant built on a daily-updated database of French law. Version 2.0.0, released in August 2026, was a complete rebuild that added legislation from Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Tunisia and the UAE alongside France, plus major European Union sources including treaties, international agreements, GDPR and eIDAS. Its security model stands out: every organization gets its own isolated database, file storage and execution environment, with SAML SSO, SCIM, RBAC and audit logs included rather than reserved for a top tier. It is built by Dev N Deploy, a small development agency. Pricing is published in euros only, starting at EUR 200 per month.
Research follows three steps. First you pick the legislation: an administrator enables the jurisdictions and sources the organization needs, and users select the relevant ones. Second, you describe the research need to the assistant in plain language. Third, you open the cited provisions directly to check and deepen the answer.
Documents are stored in a workspace organized by folders and edited in a smart editor with 1:1 DOCX compatibility, plus a Microsoft Word add-in. Recurring tasks run as workflows: Assisted drafting, Field extraction, Entities & relations, Document review, Timeline, Comparison and Translate. A personal assistant keeps matters, conversations and research organized.
- •Cited legal research - answers reference the legal sources used, across France, eight further countries and EU law, so claims can be checked against the provision.
- •Legal workflows - ready-to-use workflows for drafting, review, field and entity extraction, timelines, document comparison and legal translation, with more in development and clients able to suggest new ones.
- •Collaborative DOCX editor - several team members can edit the same document in real time with 1:1 DOCX compatibility, plus a Microsoft Word add-in.
- •Isolated infrastructure - each organization gets its own database, file bucket and execution server, with EU data residency or the nearest data center, and conversations and document content double-encrypted with an organization-specific key.
- •Enterprise controls included - SAML SSO with optional enforcement, SCIM provisioning, role-based access, audit logs, session controls and verified domains, available to all organizations at no extra cost.
- •Extensibility - organizations can add their own MCP servers, generate API keys and connect Stoa to n8n automations. Stoa states that conversations are not used to train AI models.
Stoa is aimed at legal professionals who need answers they can trace back to the text of the law: lawyers researching French, EU or other covered legislation, in-house counsel reviewing and comparing contracts, and notaries drafting and extracting fields from documents. Cross-border teams get extra value from the multi-jurisdiction coverage and the Translate and Comparison workflows.
Firms handling confidential client material will care most about the per-organization isolation, double encryption and identity controls, which come with the standard Professional plan. The FAQ also names law students as an audience, though the pricing page lists no student or free plan, only a 14-day trial of Professional. Organizations needing an SLA, custom deployment, custom integrations or a link to an internal knowledge base are pointed to Enterprise.
