Learn languages from the videos you love
About LangScribe
LangScribe is a video player built for learning languages from real content, combined with AI transcription and translation for when a video has no subtitles. You drop in a video or audio file, or paste a YouTube link, and the player opens with subtitles in the original language and a translation underneath. From there you can replay any line, loop a difficult stretch, slow the audio down and click a word to see what it means in context. The idea is simple: most learners would rather practise with films, shows, talks and podcasts they actually enjoy than with textbook dialogues, but ordinary video players are not designed for studying.
The core player is free and works without an account. Local video files play straight from your computer and are never uploaded, and imported subtitles and free Google translation cost nothing. AI features, such as generating subtitles from audio in 99 languages, context-aware AI translation into 109 languages and AI example sentences, use credits. Pro costs $5 a month for 2,500 credits and Pro+ costs $10 a month for 6,000, unused credits carry over, and there are one-time top-ups from $1 for people who do not want a subscription.
You start by opening a video or audio file from your device, pasting a direct video or YouTube link, or subscribing to a public podcast RSS feed. If you already have subtitles, you can import SRT, VTT or ASS files; if not, AI transcribes the audio into time-coded lines, detecting the spoken language automatically.
Next you study in the player. The original line and its translation appear one above the other, with the translation prepared a few lines ahead so it is ready on time. You can step to the previous or next line with one key, replay the current line, set an A-B loop to repeat a hard stretch, and slow playback down to as low as 0.5x.
When a word catches your attention, you tap it to see its meaning, the original line and a short explanation, then save it to your vocabulary list. Later you can open that list and jump back to the exact moment the word appeared, or play just that clip of audio. Transcripts can be read line by line or as prose, printed, or exported as SRT subtitles.
- •
Bilingual Subtitle Player - Show the original, the translation or both, highlight word by word or line by line, and switch between lines and paragraphs. An optional setting shows the pronunciation above each word.
- •
Loops, Replays and Speed Control - Mark a start and end point to put any stretch on repeat, loop the current line, and adjust speed between 0.5x and 2x until every word is clear.
- •
Word Lookup and Vocabulary - Click any word for its meaning and pronunciation, ask for AI example sentences, and save it with its sentence so you can return to the original clip later.
- •
AI Subtitles and Translation - Speech recognition covers 99 languages and translation can write the result in 109. You can choose free translation for everyday use or AI translation that follows the context of the scene, and run several videos through one queue.
- •
Podcast Study Mode - Subscribe to a public podcast feed, choose the audio language and translation, then transcribe and follow along line by line. If an episode has already been transcribed in that language pair, the existing transcript is reused.
- •
Privacy-First Library - Without an account, your library and subtitles stay in your browser. Signing in with Google syncs them across devices, up to 20 videos on the free plan and up to 2,000 on Pro, while video files stay on your own devices.
LangScribe is made for language learners at intermediate level and above who want to build listening skills with authentic material, whether that is Japanese anime, Spanish series, English lectures or French podcasts. Learners who already use subtitles will appreciate having the original and a translation together, plus loops and word lookup that ordinary players lack. Self-studying students can turn any video into a vocabulary list tied to real sentences. Teachers can prepare listening exercises from a video and print the transcript. Anyone who simply needs a transcript or subtitles for a recording can use the same AI transcription and export SRT files. Casual learners can stay on the free plan indefinitely, and the $1 top-up lets them try the AI features before choosing Pro.
