Remove image backgrounds in your browser - transparent PNG, color, blur or a new image.
About CutoutBG AI
CutoutBG AI is a browser-based AI background remover. You upload a JPG, PNG or WebP image, the AI finds the subject and separates it from everything behind it, and you download the result as a transparent PNG or with a new background already in place: a solid color, a blurred version of the original, or another image of your own. There is nothing to install and no editing knowledge needed, because the AI picks the subject itself and you only decide what goes behind it. The problem it addresses is a common one for anyone selling online, building slides or making ID and profile photos: cutting a subject out by hand with an eraser tool is slow, and it falls apart on busy rooms, shadows and fly-away hair, which is exactly where an AI model that reads the picture rather than matching colors does better.
What sets CutoutBG AI apart is how much of the product is available for free. Three images a day need no account at all, and signing in with Google raises that to ten. Free results are not shrunk or stamped: the vendor states that downloads come at the same pixel size you uploaded, up to 36 megapixels, with no watermark, and that free cutouts may be used commercially, which is the part many background removers keep behind a paid plan. Paying does not unlock better cutouts or bigger downloads; it buys volume, larger uploads, more jobs running at once and a longer history. The service runs on tokens, where one token is one image regardless of the background you choose, and a job that fails returns its token automatically. According to its about page, the cutout itself comes from an AI background-removal model run by its processing provider, GoEnhance AI, while blurred and replaced backgrounds are composited on CutoutBG's own servers. Uploaded images are used only to produce the requested result and are never used to train a model. The site is image-only, has no public API and no bulk upload today; the vendor says an API is planned.
The workflow is three steps. First, you add an image: drag a JPG, PNG or WebP file into the upload box on the homepage, click to browse, or paste an image straight from the clipboard with Ctrl+V. Free uploads can be up to 25 MB, and any plan or token pack lifts that to 50 MB.
Second, you choose what you want back before running the job. The background panel offers four outputs from one cutout: Transparent, Color, Blur and Image. You also pick an image type, Photo for real photographs or Anime / illustration for drawings, so that line work and hair stay intact on artwork. The tool shows the token cost before you start, and every option costs one token.
Third, the AI separates the subject from the background, keeping soft edges such as hair and fur as partly transparent pixels instead of a hard outline. You can compare the result with the original using a slider and then download it at the size you uploaded. Transparent and solid-color results download as PNG, while blurred and replaced backgrounds download as JPG. Because each run is a separate job, you can try a white background, then a blurred one, and keep whichever works.
Results stay in your history so you can download them again: 7 days on the free allowance and 180 days on a plan or token pack. You can delete any image yourself, which removes both the original and the cutout. The free daily allowance refills 24 hours after you use the first token rather than at midnight, and daily tokens are spent before plan or pack tokens. The vendor notes that the first image after a quiet spell can take a minute or more while the model starts up.
- •AI subject cutout - The model finds the subject in the photo and removes everything around it, preserving fine detail like hair and fur as semi-transparent edges. The vendor lists people, products, logos, signatures and drawings as everyday subjects, from portraits and team photos to clothing, bottles and furniture shot for marketplace listings.
- •Four background outputs from one cutout - Transparent gives a PNG with nothing behind the subject for slides, mockups, stickers and store listings. Color fills a solid background in any color, with white one click away for marketplaces and school or staff badges. Blur keeps your original scene but softens it behind the subject. Image lets you upload a second picture, which is scaled to fill the frame behind your subject. Each has its own dedicated page on the site: transparent background, white background, change background and blur background.
- •Photo and Anime / illustration modes - A switch between two image types tunes the cutout for either real photographs or drawn artwork, including anime, illustrations and game art, so that line work is not eaten away by a model built for photos.
- •Full-resolution, watermark-free free tier - Outputs keep the pixel size of the upload, up to 36 megapixels (about 7000 x 5000), with no watermark on free or paid results. Commercial use is allowed on the free allowance as well as on paid plans, and the comparison slider lets you check edges before downloading.
- •Token-based usage with automatic refunds - One token equals one image for every background type. Free tokens refill on a rolling 24-hour basis, plan tokens arrive monthly and do not roll over, and pack tokens last up to 12 months. If a job fails, the token goes back to your account on its own without a support request.
- •Privacy and history controls - Images are processed only to produce your result and are never used for model training. History is kept for 7 days on free use and 180 days on paid use, and deleting an image from history removes both the original and the result.
CutoutBG AI fits people who need clean cutouts now and then without paying for a design suite. Online sellers preparing product photos for marketplaces that ask for a white background can produce them in one step, and small shops can use the transparent output for store listings, ads and client work, since commercial use is permitted even on free results.
Office workers, teachers and students who drop images onto slides, documents or mockups get a transparent PNG without learning an editor. Anyone making headshots, school ID or staff badge photos can put a plain white or colored background behind a portrait. Designers and hobbyists working with logos, scanned signatures, stickers, anime art and illustrations can use the Anime / illustration mode to keep line work intact.
The free allowance of three images a day without an account, or ten with a free Google sign-in, covers occasional everyday jobs. People with heavier but regular volume, such as resellers listing new stock every week, are the audience for the monthly plans, which add 400, 1,200 or 3,000 images a month. Those with one busy period a year, such as a seasonal catalog shoot, are better served by a one-time token pack valid for 12 months. Former remove.bg users looking for a replacement ahead of its December 2026 shutdown are a group the vendor addresses directly.
It is less suited to teams that need a public API, scripted batch processing or bulk upload, none of which CutoutBG AI offers today, or to anyone removing backgrounds from video, since the tool handles still images only.
