DeepFilterNet vs RNNoise vs FFmpeg 2026: 9 Tests
DeepFilterNet3 lifted speech quality on every noise we tested, from keyboard clatter to mains hum, on one CPU core. At its default setting it also removes a music bed almost completely, and the RNNoise inside OBS is the pre-2024 model.
Comfy API vs Runpod and Modal: The 1.30x GPU Markup
Comfy API deploys ComfyUI workflows as autoscaling endpoints. Its four GPU prices are exactly 1.30x Runpod Serverless flex rates, its idle window is a fixed 30 seconds, and our comfy build init test found public models queued for upload and node requirements the spec missed.
Open TTS Leaderboard: The #1 Voice Clone Is Non-Commercial
Hugging Face's new Open TTS Leaderboard puts the 82M-parameter Kokoro first in English. We read every model's license: in the multilingual and voice cloning views the #1 and #2 are non-commercial, and the first model you can ship is Qwen3-TTS at #3.
Best Open-Source AI Video Models, Measured (2026)
MiniMax H3 drew 150 of the 311 community models built on open video models in September, 48% of the total. Its license excludes the US, the EU, the UK and South Korea. We measured 13 families on adoption, license and ComfyUI support.
ComfyUI v0.38: New Nodes, and Recraft Costs 43% More
ComfyUI v0.38.0 adds eight Partner Node changes, from HY Image 3.5 to GPT-6 Sol, and drops Sora. The price badges in its source show every Recraft node now costs 1.43x Recraft's own API price, the same factor on every Claude and GPT chat model added since July.
How to Search Your Photos by Description, Locally
You can search a folder of photos by typing what is in them, offline and for free, with rclip. We indexed 1,000 photos in 12.8 seconds on a CPU; a one-sentence description put the right photo in the top 10 91.5% of the time.
GPT-6.1 Sol: Near-Astra Coding, and High Beats Max
OpenAI's GPT-6.1 Sol costs the same per token as GPT-6 Sol with cached input halved. We pulled the 102 points behind OpenAI's charts: High beats Astra on DeepSWE, Max scores lower at 2.4x the cost, and Opus 5.5 still leads AutomationBench.
Sign in with ChatGPT: Use Your Plan in Other Apps
Sign in with ChatGPT now lets Plus and Pro subscribers spend their plan in other apps, with no API key. We checked the 4 open-source tools OpenAI lists on launch day: only Pi shipped it in a stable release, and the route refuses image generation.
Meta Muse for Small Business: What Approval Covers
Meta's Muse for Small Business promises nothing publishes, sends or spends without your approval. We read the 12 official pages behind that line: purchases always ask, but publishing and sending are a setting, and a sent email cannot be reversed.
Shopify WebMCP Checkout Tested on 8 Real Stores
Shopify opened checkout to browser AI agents on September 28. We tested 8 stores in Chrome 154: every storefront exposed 11 tools, but no checkout did until WebMCP was switched on, and one partial update wiped a buyer's address.
NVIDIA OpenShell Tested: What the Policy Prover Misses
NVIDIA's Open Agent Safety Platform launched September 28, and OpenShell is the part you can run today. We gave its policy prover 19 permission-widening edits: it caught 9, answered unsupported on 9, and passed 1 the runtime blocks anyway.
How to Stop AI Scrapers From Making Up Data
AI scrapers fill missing fields with real text from the wrong line of the page. We rebuilt the "Do not guess" twin-page test on a CPU: quote checks caught 0 of 7 decoys, and a 4B checker model caught them all.
