SpriteGen
AI sprite sheet generator for game developers
About SpriteGen
SpriteGen is an AI sprite creator built for game developers. You describe a character and what it is doing, pick a camera view and visual style, and it returns an animated sprite sheet as a transparent PNG with evenly spaced frames, ready to import into a game engine. The problem it addresses is the animation bottleneck in small game projects: drawing every frame of a walk cycle or attack by hand takes pixel-art and animation skills that many solo developers lack, while general AI image tools tend to produce single images rather than animation frames. SpriteGen focuses specifically on game-ready sprite sheets and shows a live looping preview before you download.
Generation runs on credits, at four credits per sprite sheet. You can try it with 2 free generations without signing up and receive 15 credits on sign-up. Paid plans are Starter at $16/month (300 credits, about 75 sprite sheets) and Pro at $42/month (800 credits, about 200 sheets), and a 300-credit top-up pack is available for $19.90 as a one-time purchase. The site lists the AI models it uses, including GPT Image 2.5, Nano Banana and Kling v3 Turbo, and describes itself as an independent product not affiliated with any model provider or game engine.
Everything happens on one workbench screen. First, write a prompt such as "a knight swinging a sword", or start from one of 12 presets like a forest mage, skeleton warrior or pink slime. Next, set the view (for example side view), the style (such as 16-bit) and the direction the character faces. Then choose an action from idle, walk, run, jump, attack, cast, hurt, death or fly, pick image or video mode, a frame count of 6, 8 or 12, and an output format, either HD or pixel-perfect cells from 16 to 128 pixels. Press generate and the sheet is produced; the site gives an average generation time of about a minute. The character then plays in a smooth animated loop so you can check it before downloading the PNG.
- •Prompt-driven character animation - The generator reads both the character and the action from your description, so one prompt yields a full animation rather than a single still.
- •Styles, views and actions - 12 built-in styles and 4 camera views, plus nine actions from idle to fly, with adjustable frame counts of 6, 8 or 12.
- •Live animated preview - The result loops on screen as soon as generation finishes, so you see exactly what you are getting before you download.
- •Game-ready PNG output - Sheets come as transparent PNGs with evenly spaced frames, in HD or pixel-perfect cell sizes of 16, 32, 64, 96 or 128 pixels.
- •Commercial license - Paid plans include a commercial license for the generated sprite sheets.
- •Companion sprite tools - The site also offers a GIF to sprite sheet converter, an AI sprite maker for single items, NPCs or icons, a pixel art maker on 16, 32 or 64 grids, and a sprite sheet packer for existing frames.
SpriteGen is aimed at solo and indie game developers who need animated characters but lack the time or skills for frame-by-frame pixel art, and at studios producing characters every week, which the Pro plan targets. It is well suited to prototyping: a developer can test a handful of characters and actions in a game engine before committing to an art direction. Hobbyists building retro 2D games and developers who need quick NPC or enemy sprites are also a natural fit, since the presets and free tries make it easy to evaluate the output first. Developers who already have frames or animated GIFs can use the packing and conversion tools instead of generation.
