Sprita
Create Animated Sprite Sheets from a Prompt or Character Image
About Sprita
Sprita is a browser-based AI workshop for making 2D character animation and PNG sprite sheets. You start from a text description or a character image you already have, generate a short continuous motion such as idle, walk, run, attack, cast, hit or a custom action, and Sprita pulls frames out of that clip, cleans the background, aligns them and lets you inspect every frame before exporting a fixed-grid sprite sheet. It is aimed at indie game developers, game jam teams and anyone prototyping 2D characters who needs readable game actions without drawing every frame by hand. The problem it targets is the gap between a single piece of character art and a usable animation set. Generic image generators produce one picture at a time and rarely hold a character consistent across a sequence. Sprita treats the motion clip as raw material and puts a human review pass in the middle: you pause, zoom into feet, hands, weapons and transparent edges, keep only the frames that preserve the character, and hold the ground line and scale steady so the import into a game does not pop or drift. The site states that source images are generated with Google Gemini 3.1 Flash Image and motions with ByteDance Doubao Seedance models, and that content is moderated before and after generation. Pricing is split between cloud generation, which uses credits, and the finishing tools, which do not. Prompt refinement, importing, frame extraction, background cleanup, inspection, animation preview and PNG export stay available without spending generation credits. A free first project is offered after sign-in and a bot check, and memberships are billed monthly only, with a one-time Energy Pack for non-expiring credits.
The workflow runs in four stages. First you describe or import a character: refine the character brief in plain language and generate a source image, or upload artwork you already trust, which skips the source-image cost. Sprita asks you to confirm the character before any motion is generated, so the identity is locked before credits are spent on animation.
Second, you choose an action and generate a short motion clip. Sprita aims to keep the camera, scale and ground line stable so the result can be cut into frames. Motion tiers range from Fast (480P, about 1.2 seconds) to Standard (480P, 4 seconds) and Quality (720P, 4 seconds), and the credit cost is shown before each cloud request.
Third, you extract and clean. Frames are pulled from the clip, green or blue backgrounds are removed, and you inspect edges, feet, hands and equipment frame by frame. Fourth, you select the frames that hold together, preview the loop, and export a fixed-grid PNG sprite sheet with frame count, columns and playback speed ready for your own project. A no-sign-in browser playtest lets you try the play, pause, inspect and export steps on Sprita-owned sample assets before creating an account.
- •Prompt or Image to Character - Start from a written character brief with prompt refinement, or upload your own character image. Source images come in Draft (512), Standard (1K) and Detail (2K) tiers depending on plan, and uploading your own art skips the source-image credit cost entirely.
- •Short Motion Generation - Generate idle, walk, run, attack, cast, hit or custom actions as a short continuous clip from one confirmed character. The homepage showcase builds four motions (idle, walk, attack and cast) from a single source character to show how a consistent motion set comes together.
- •Frame Extraction, Cleanup and Inspection - Sprita extracts frames from the clip, removes green or blue backgrounds, and gives you a frame inspector to pause on any pose and zoom into transparent edges. You keep only the frames that read clearly in motion, rather than guessing from a looping preview.
- •Fixed-Grid PNG Sprite Sheet Export - Selected frames are arranged on a fixed grid with consistent frame size and root anchor, then exported as a PNG sheet. Export, preview and cleanup are not charged in generation credits, so running out of credits does not lock existing frames.
- •Director Mode and Batch Actions - On the top Director plan, all image and motion tiers unlock along with full Director Mode controls and Batch Actions for up to six motions per batch, which suits building repeatable motion sets for one character.
- •Godot Plugin, API and Private Asset Vault - Paid memberships include Godot 4.x plugin downloads and updates and a private, account-isolated Asset Vault with folders. Director adds read-only member API and MCP access for tasks, ledger and quota, plus OAuth client management and SDK and OpenAPI downloads.
Sprita is built for indie game developers who want to turn one approved character into a practical set of readable game actions without commissioning or hand-drawing every frame. Solo developers and small teams working in Godot get a plugin on every paid plan, which shortens the path from exported sheet to engine.
Game jam participants are an explicit audience: the site positions Sprita as a way to move from a character idea to inspectable PNG frames while the schedule is still moving. Prototypers can test motion direction and silhouette before committing to a full animation pass, and use Sprita output as a reviewable reference that later goes to an animator.
It also fits 2D character production more broadly, keeping source images, motion clips, selected frames and exported sheets organised in one private workflow. Because the site notes that commercial use depends on your input rights and the generation service terms, studios planning a commercial release should review the provenance and terms pages before shipping generated assets. Anyone curious can try the browser playtest and one free Starter-level project before choosing a monthly tier.
