Everything you use Photoshop for, free in your browser
About PhotoFresco
PhotoFresco is a free raster image editor that runs in the browser and is modeled on the Photoshop workflow: real layers, masks, brushes, selections, filters and layered PSD import and export. Editing runs on your own machine, GPU-accelerated through WebGL2 with a CPU fallback, and there is nothing to install and no account needed to open, edit and save work. Once loaded it works offline as an installable web app. It targets people who need to open a layered PSD or do real layer-and-mask work on a machine without a desktop editor.
What makes it different is that AI image generation lives inside the canvas rather than in a separate gallery. You type a prompt, pick a model, and the result lands in your document as a new layer that can be masked, blended, transformed and undone like any other edit. The pricing reflects how the product is built: the editor is free forever and funded by a single ad rail, an Ad-free subscription costs $8/month and adds a cloud drive, and AI is the only metered feature, paid per use with one-time credit packs from $9. There is no free AI allowance and Ad-free does not include credits. PhotoFresco is an independent product, not affiliated with Adobe.
You launch the editor and either create a document from presets such as HD, 4K, A4, Instagram Square or Story, or open an existing image or PSD. Editing uses familiar panels: Layers, Channels, Paths, History, Adjustments and more. A local crash-recovery copy is kept in browser storage, and work is saved as PSD or to My Documents.
For AI, you allow AI tools in Data & privacy and sign in, since credits need an account. You type in the prompt box at the bottom of the editor, choose a model (Nano Banana, Nano Banana 2 or Nano Banana Pro, from Google via managed serving), optionally attach up to two reference images, and generate. The credit cost is shown before you commit, and the result appears as a new layer and in History.
- •Layers, masks and blend modes - layer groups, layer and vector masks, clipping masks, adjustment layers, opacity and fill, layer styles, and a long list of blend modes. The company says its blend math matches Photoshop down to 8-bit sRGB semantics.
- •PSD in, PSD out - layered PSDs open with groups, masks, adjustment layers, smart objects and layer styles preserved. The docs are upfront that text and shape layers are rasterized on export.
- •AI generation as layers - prompt-to-image and image-to-image with up to two references, five aspect ratios, Compare mode that runs one prompt through up to 4 models at once, and Batch for up to 4 variations per model.
- •AI Layer Split - right-click a raster layer to split it into a group of editable foreground and background layers, for 17 credits, on sources up to 2,048 px per side.
- •Fast on big documents - tiled rendering and a GPU compositor are designed to keep 4K canvases fluid, with a 64-step undo history.
- •Agent-ready design - every editing action is a structured operation with a schema that an AI agent can call, landing in History like any other edit. An Agent API, MCP support and an in-app AI assistant are listed as coming soon.
PhotoFresco suits people who need real layer-based editing without a desktop install: designers opening a client PSD on a machine without Photoshop, photographers doing retouches and background swaps, and social media creators building posts from presets. Because the editor is free and needs no account, it also fits students and occasional users.
Users who want AI alongside manual editing get a practical workflow, since generated images arrive as editable layers, and they pay only for the credits they use. Anyone handling confidential images should note that session recording is on by default and sends editing events and copies of opened files to PhotoFresco until it is turned off in Data & privacy.
